Battery Store Stays Energized
By Janelle Cannon for L-P Products
Owners Gunter and Pat Beyer stock around 10,000 batteries at the Regina Battery Depot. Since opening their store 40 years ago, electronic gadgets have changed immensely. There are more types of batteries now than ever before with today’s digital cameras, cell phones, portable phones and laptops.
After four decades of energizing the rapidly evolving world of electronics, one thing has always stayed the same about the Battery Depot; they are able to provide almost any type of battery a customer can imagine. From automotive to commercial, from hearing aids to digital cameras, from alkaline to rechargeable, they carry a battery for virtually anything. If they do not carry the battery, they will order it in, as long as it is possible to get it from their suppliers.
A popular seller right now are replacement cell phone batteries. When the time the phone holds a charge gets shorter and shorter, it is a sign that the battery has become exhausted. Typically, the battery will last around three years, but the lifespan decreases with heavy usage. Battery Depot sells replacement batteries for very reasonable prices, costing $40 on average.
Besides specializing in all things battery-related, Regina Battery Depot also offers complete automotive repair service on site, including tune-ups and brakes.
The Regina Battery Depot opened in March 1971 in a small shop on 1301 Winnipeg Street. The business has remained on Winnipeg Street all along, but not always in the same location. In 1974 they moved down the block to 1500 Winnipeg, and in 1991 they moved again to their current location, right across the street. After 20 years in the same place, it is time for another recharge, but rather than moving, the store’s exterior will be completely remodelled this spring. After four decades of selling a battery for Regina’s every need, it’s a fresh start to a new chapter.
